Green leaves

You’re sixty-five years old today
I can’t imagine how you must feel,
That’s three score and five years more
…than the time of your first squeal.
The back is creaking, the hair is thinning
the mid section is beginning to swell,
And this is me at 37
at 65 I hope I fare as well
as you have done throughout the years
…you never seem to change.

I guess its because you never stop going,
sure you’ve slowed down just a bit,
but you’ve been retired for over a decade
…and yet you still never quit.

You’ve done it all…from A to Z
and to show you that’s not just a line,
I’ve listed some of your occupations
…at least to this point in time.

But it seems like only yesterday
we were throwing around a ball,
or building a volcano for a science fair,
…or you were chasing me down a hall.

Although time has passed and I’ve grown up
I’m glad to say it never ends,
While we used to be just father and son
….now I’m glad that we’re also best friends.
